Kier Byrnes MBA’01, DLP’11 and his band, Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners, won "Americana Artist of the Year" in the 2025 Boston Music Awards, held Dec 17th, 2025. their release "Before the Fall" won "Best Album of the Year" from Twangville in their readers poll, and our EP, "Dances by Firelight", landed on Americana UK’s Top 10 Releases of 2025.

Nicholas Puleo, SSH'05, of Norwell, Massachusetts, launched Comsint, a public relations and marketing advisory focused on helping businesses confront the challenges of today's media and cultural landscape. Comsint is built on a national network of senior advisors, each with extensive experience across a wide range of disciplines. Puleo developed the asset-light agency model to decrease overhead giving companies greater access to seasoned, top-tier talent.

Mary Churchill, SSH'04, '98, has been named Chief of Policy and Planning for the City of Boston.

Ethan LaRochelle, E'09, is co-founder and CEO of QUEL Imagining which was recently awarded a Phase I SBIR grant to develop tools for fluorescence guided surgery. During his time at Northeastern, Ethan was president of Engineers Without Borders (06-08) and a recipient of the 2009 Compass Award. After working in industry he returned to academics in 2015 to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Dartmouth College. During his PhD Ethan was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

James Whitley, NUSL'01, won the 2020 Red Mountain Press Poetry Prize for his latest poetry collection, SONGS FOR SOLO VOICE, that will be published in April 2021. This music-inspired collection tackles themes of betrayal, heartbreak and loss. Whitley currently serves as the Dean of the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education at Post University in Waterbury, CT.

Yaron Ivan, CPS'05, started a website and podcast to help others who take care of kids in acute settings. PEM Rules is the Pediatric Emergency Medicine podcast. After receiving his undergraduate degree in 2005, he completed his General Pediatrics Residency at Baystate Children's Hospital and a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at UPMC's Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. In addition to pediatric care, Yaron has taught medical students, physician assistants, and residents, receiving several teaching awards. He hopes this new educational project will help others.

Cyrus McQueen, SSH'01, published his debut book in December 2020, "Tweeting Truth to Power: Chronicling our Caustic Politics, Crazed Times, & The Great Black & White Divide." McQueen transitioned from stand-up comedian to political and cultural critic combatting the growing racial divide. His book details personal experiences with racism as a Black man in the United States. Read More

She is continuing to work as a clinical social worker in Addiction Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she has worked for over 7 years. She resides in Charlestown, Mass. and splits her time between there and Skaneateles, NY.
