Hosted by the Northeastern University Civil Engineering Alumni Organization, this informational panel discussed the "new normal" in the AEC industry. Listen to industry leaders Steve Duvel, Senior Vice President of the New England Division at Gilbane Building Company, Aaron Gallagher, Vice President and Director of Civil Engineering at Nitsch Engineering, and Johanna Hall, E'05, Team Leader at Weston & Sampson, on how they have tackled these new challenges in order to continue projects and keep building. The panel was moderated by NUCEAO Secretary Allison Goldberg, E'15 with closing networking groups.

Public Health Approaches to Protecting Youth from Gun Violence: COVID and Beyond

In this virtual conference, health care professionals and other experts discussed the increased risk of gun violence at home and in public (including schools) during the COVID pandemic, and recommend public health approaches to reduce gun violence affecting youth. Each session included Q&A and a moderated break-out discussion. This was a three-part conference series. CE credits were also available for participants.

Lifelong Learning: On Demand – Innovative Uses of Artificial Intelligence

An introduction into to a few innovative uses of AI in the fields of healthcare, computers, and robotics was presented. Northeastern faculty experts Craig Johnson and Taskin Padir were featured in leading this online program. Learners also had the opportunity to earn a non-credit digital badge.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health and Emerging Strategies to Support People Through and Beyond the Pandemic

COVID-19 created unprecedented sources of individual, social and societal disruption. In this session, the topics of ongoing research at the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research, Department of Health Sciences, and from the APPEAR team in the Department of Applied Psychology, examining the impact of COVID-19 on mental health – specifically examining the impact of the pandemic on people with serious mental illness; and the impact on disordered eating were discussed. Also discussed were emerging strategies to support mental health and well-being during COVID and to address the long lasting impacts on mental health of the pandemic.

A Husky Santa Visit

While 2020 may have brought a lot of change to our lives, it couldn't dash our spirit for the holidays. We brought an exclusive virtual meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus to our Northeastern families. Santa helped the kids get their list ready and joined fellow Huskies for a family-friendly online event. Attendees enjoyed a holiday movie and other spirited activities before each family joined a breakout room for some dedicated time with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
