Sex Differences in Fearful Behavior: Linking Brain Structure and Function

Prior to 2016, most biomedical research was done almost exclusively on male animals – completely ignoring any possible differences females and other sexes could experience. Prof. Rebecca Shansky knew that this can – and has – led to treatments for neurological diseases and illnesses that do not work in women. Professor Shansky is on a mission to understand differences that sex has on the brain’s responses to trauma. Hear from Hazel Sive, Dean of the College of Science, and Peter Bex, Chair of the Psychology Department, introduced Professor Shansky to speak about her revolutionary research in how sex affects brain structure and function.
