Your bridge to the alumni network
The Senior Year Experience Board (SYEB) is the group of undergraduate senior volunteers charged with advising OAR on senior interest, educating peers on philanthropy, and executing meetings and programming throughout the year. The SYEB works with the senior year experience (SYE) engagement officer on all aspects of the SYE to ensure that content and programming is relevant to the students and enhances their experience as seniors.
Senior Year Experience (SYE) is the year-long programming consisting of experiences that enhance the traditional senior year as well as expose seniors to the opportunities and resources that the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) has to offer. SYEB also serves as the resource for seniors to reference for experiences throughout their final undergraduate year at Northeastern, including but not limited to events, communications, and deadlines.
Members of the SYEB are expected to foster class unity and promote the SYE events and programming. While on the board, the members will create a collaborative and respectful environment to create a tailored, fun SYE for their peers.
SYEB works with the senior year experience engagement officer to provide class-specific insight, execute meetings and programming, and facilitate conversations with peers throughout the academic year.
The board and the senior year experience engagement officer will meet for approximately one hour every other week, with the chair and the vice chair meeting every week with the engagement officer.
As seniors, you have the chance to advise on the planning of your final year. Members of the board will have the opportunity to tell us the kinds of events you want to host and what you want your graduation to look like. You will have a hand in the planning of Commencement Week activities and help us make the week-long celebration for your class unique to you and your peers. Other perks include professional head shots, access to certain events, SYEB swag, and the ability to organize special board-bonding activities.
A successful SYEB candidate will have an interest in promoting Northeastern’s culture of philanthropic giving. You will have the opportunity to share with your peers the benefits of giving and the importance of fostering philanthropy at an undergraduate level.
Whether it be your student organization, college, or area of study, remember that 100% of your donation will go to the area of your choice and leave a lasting impact. Help support the organizations that matter to you and your peers!
Looking for an opportunity to do more? Let us know you’re interested in an SYEB leadership role in your application!
The chair of the SYEB serves as the spokesperson for the group. They are tasked with general leadership over the group, spearheading projects, and promoting the SYEB mission and goals within the Northeastern community. The chair will meet weekly with the vice chair, social media coordinator, and the SYE advisor.
The vice chair supports the chair in leading the SYEB and collaborates with the social media coordinator on SYEB’s online presence. A main focus of the vice chair will be promoting Northeastern’s philanthropic initiative on campus to the Class of 2022. The vice chair will meet weekly with the chair and the SYE advisor.
SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR
The social media coordinator oversees the marketing and social media accounts for the SYEB. This includes posting regularly on our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, cultivating a senior following on our channels, and creating digital content featuring SYEB. The social media coordinator will meet weekly with the chair, vice chair, and the SYE advisor.
By joining the Senior Year Experience Board, you will find that there are many ways you can make this time special and unique to your time as a Husky. Help us make your final year memorable and apply to be a board member today!
