Alumni Engagement Award

The Alumni Engagement Award serves to acknowledge and support student organizations that actively engage alumni and encourage them to participate in or lead dynamic programming. The award is presented annually during the Student Life Awards, a program of the Center for Student Involvement that celebrates the extraordinary efforts of Northeastern’s diverse student leaders and organizations. The winning organization receives a physical award and monetary gift to support further engagement of alumni.

Black Engineering Student Society (BESS)

Founded at Northeastern in 1974 and incorporated into the National Society of Black Engineers in 1975, the Black Engineering Student Society, commonly known as BESS, “serves to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” An active society on campus, BESS has been steadfast in their dedication to building programs – engaging, learning, and connecting togehter with their alumni constiutents.

2019, Northeastern Graduate Student Color Collective

The purpose of the Graduate Student Color Collective (GSCC) is to build community for graduate students of color at Northeastern University by promoting education, professionalism, and civic duty. The GSCC fosters student, staff, and faculty relationships to establish a campus home for higher education at Northeastern. Through civic engagement with surrounding communities, the GSCC recognizes the continued struggles of marginalized populations, and the need for those who have succeeded to give back.

2018, Northeastern University Real Estate Club

The Northeastern University Real Estate Club was established to build a community of students at Northeastern who are interested in learning more about real estate related topics, including but not limited to development, investment, and policy. Through three primary avenues: educational events, networking opportunities with employers who have real-estate related opportunities, and interactive events, students develop relationships and learn from each other.

2017, WRBB 104.9 Campus Radio

WRBB 104.9 Campus Radio has provided the Northeastern and Back Bay communities with the best on-air programming since the ’60s, and that hasn’t changed in the modern era! WRBB is dedicated to supporting the Boston music scene and act as a creative and professional outlet for those interested in broadcast media. In 2016, WRBB launched a colaborative initiative with the OAR to create a visual history of WRBB.

2016, Northeastern University Women's Leadership Network

The inaugural Alumni Engagement Award was presented to the Northeastern University Women’s Leadership Network during the 2016 Student Life Awards on Thursday, April 14, 2016. According to its mission statement, the network “cultivates an ongoing conversation about the advancement of women in the workforce and how women can be empowered at all levels in their careers to achieve long-term success and fulfillment.”
